4 / 16 page MC13146 4 MOTOROLA RF/IF DEVICE DATA PIN FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Pin Symbol/Type Description Description 1, 3 Mxr/Buf Out–, Mxr/Buf Out+ Mxr/Buf Out– 1 VEE 2 Mxr/B f + 3 Mixer/Buffer Outputs The Mixer/Buffer is a differential open collector configuration which designed to use over a wide frequency range for up conversion as well as direct conversion. Differential to single–ended circuit configuration and matching options are discussed in the Circuit Description section. 6.0 dB of additional Mixer gain can be achieved by conjugately matching the outputs at the desired RF frequency. 2 VEE Mxr/Buf Out+ VEE, Negative Supply This pin is VEE supply for the mixer IF output. In the application PC board this pin is tied to a common VEE trace with other VEE pins. 4 Mx Lin Mx Lin 4 5 VCC Mixer Linearity Control The mixer linearity control circuit accepts approximately 0 to 200 µA control current to set the dynamic range of the mixer. An Input Third Order Intercept Point, IIP3 of 17 dBm may be achieved at 200 µA of control current. 5 Mxr/Buf In Mxr/Buf In 5 450 µA Mixer/Buffer Input The mixer input impedance is broadband 50 Ω for applications up to 2.4 GHz. 6, 7, 18, 24 VEE VEE 6 VEE 7 VEE 18 VEE 24 VEE, Negative Supply These pins are substrate connections on the IC. In the application PC board these pins are tied to a common VEE trace with other VEE pins. 8 VCC VCC 8 Base 9 10 VCC, Supply Voltage Two VCC pins are provided for the Local Oscillator and LO Buffer Amplifier. The operating supply voltage range is from 2.7 Vdc to 6.5 Vdc. In the PCB layout, the VCC trace must be kept as wide as feasible to minimize inductive reactances along the trace. VCC should be decoupled to VEE at the IC pin. 9 Base VEE 10 On–board VCO Transistor The transistor has the emitter, base, collector, VCC d V i il bl I t l bi i hi h i 10 VEE Emitter 11 500 µA 2.0 mA and VEE pins available. Internal biasing which is compensated for stability over temperature is provided. It is recommended that the base pin is 11 Emitter 12 500 µA 2.0 mA rovided. It is recommended that the base in is pulled up to VCC through an RFC chosen for the particular oscillator center frequency.
